In 1975, Tianshui Seismological School of China’s Earthquake Administration was established.

In 1983, the school moved to Yanjiao, Sanhe city, Hebeiprovince, and was renamed Seismological School of China’s Earthquake Administration.

In 1985, the school was upgraded to Seismic Technical College.

In1992, the school was renamed College of Disaster Prevention Techniques.

In2006, the school started to enroll undergraduate students and was renamed the Institute of Disaster Prevention (IDP).

In 2011, IDP was approved as one of the second batch of universities to implement the Excellent Engineer Development Plan.

In 2012, IDP was listed as a pilot unit for professional master’s programs that serve the special needs of the country by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council.

In 2013, IDP started to offerprofessional master’s programs and enroll graduate students.
